Brake System Inspection Items

Oct 11, 2022

The braking system is very important to driving safety. Many car owners often wait until they find that the braking system is not working properly before overhauling the braking system. At this time, it is too late. Only by regularly performing necessary maintenance and maintenance on the brake system can we ensure the normal operation of the brake system and ensure driving safety.

①Check whether the brake fluid is sufficient

The stock of brake fluid can be checked by the owner himself. After opening the engine compartment cover, we first find the brake fluid reservoir (usually located in the upper right corner of the engine compartment). There will be two scale lines, MAX and MIN, on the reservoir tank, and the brake fluid level needs to be between the two scale lines to be considered sufficient.

If the brake fluid stock is insufficient, the braking force will easily drop, which will affect the driving safety.

②Check the water content of the brake fluid

Since the brake fluid will absorb the moisture in the air, the moisture content of the brake fluid will increase over time, which will eventually lead to the failure of the brake fluid. Checking the water content of the brake fluid is difficult for car owners to operate. It is best to go to a professional repair shop to check with a professional detector.

In order to ensure the effect of the brake fluid, we must regularly replace the brake fluid that meets the standard for the vehicle according to the regulations of the vehicle manufacturer.

③ Regularly check the thickness of the brake pads or brake shoes

Regardless of disc or drum type, both brake systems provide the ultimate braking effect by either the pads (disc) or the pads (drum). Therefore, we should regularly check the thickness of the brake pad or brake shoe, and when it is found that its thickness is close to or less than the specified minimum thickness, it should be replaced immediately. For this inspection, it is recommended that the car owner send the car to a professional repair shop to be carried out by professional maintenance personnel.

While checking the brake pads, we also check the degree of wear of the brake discs or brake drums. If a dent is found on the contact surface, it must be repaired in time to ensure the contact area with the brake pad or brake shoe and improve the braking force.

④Try not to disassemble the brake system without permission

Some car owners like to paint the brake calipers in other colors because of their individuality. In the process of spraying, the car owner may disassemble the components of the brake system without permission. If the installation is not in place, the brake system will easily have problems and affect the braking ability. Therefore, we try not to disassemble the brake system without permission. If it is really necessary to disassemble, you should seek professional assistance.
